Two young women at the end of a long, bitter war. Two soldiers who left distant Canada to liberate Europe. The summer of '45 brings them all together—a few hours, a few days that will determine the rest of their lives. Anna from Zeeland falls in love with Canadian soldier Jim, and he with her. But the maelstrom of events gives their love little chance. Maria from Breda experiences liberation as an unreal intoxication.
